The Summer season has kicked off with my first weekend of Open Studio, the weather was almost too kind keeping people on the beaches, but the footfall was still encouraging. It was a great event with 5 At the Hive exhibiting for the first time as a collective. Lots of hard work from everyone brought the event to life and we all did well as a result.
This year I was not at Shalfleet Church but at Northwood WI Hall. Closer to Newport for some of us and a better venue in terms of space and light. The hall has large windows that run the length of it and ample space for each artist to display and work.
LouLouBalou Glass (Clare-Louise Sandell) had a vibrant display of beautiful glasswork and showed her talent off in exactly the right way. This was her first Open Studio and she was well received.
The Shabby Seagull (Barb Gamble) displayed a beautiful range of cushions and journals in her signature applique and mixed media style. This was her first Open Studio event and was very well received.
Pink Jen Jewellery (Jeni Saunders) has taken part in this event before and this year introduced some new pieces to her collection; lovely Unicorns and Birds, all exquisitely made and beautiful to wear.
Yarnsmith Studio (Tracy O’Brien) has also taken part before and had a display that was full of colour, from her unique cactus pin cushions to her lovely Teapot Covers and Blankets.
This is my third year taking part in Open Studios. I am always nervous and worked hard to produced a mixture of work, some framed pieces, including Heather and Hawthorne and Woods. I also produced some electronic device pouches and needle cases. Everything contained my signature embellished felt with, hand and machine embroidery.
Next weekend you can find 5 At The Hive at Holliers Park for the second Open Studio weekend. It is a smaller venue but it will be packed to the rafters with work from various artists from across the island. I will be based in TAJ Crafts alongside, Yarnsmith Studio, Pink Jen Jewellery and LouLouBalou Glass.
If you are on the island do come along and see us.
Open Daily 10am to 5pm
Friday 22 July to Sunday 24 July.
