In the run up to this years Open Studio event, I met with several of the artists for a coffee at the local pub across the road from the venue.  It was here that I voiced the idea that had been brewing in my head for some time.  I asked them whether they thought it would be a good idea to bring together several tutors to teach at the same venue over a couple of days. The idea being, to share the costs associated with running a workshop between the tutors.

I have always enjoyed teaching but the cost of a venue that has good facilities and parking is expensive and the viability of doing this alone meant that the course charges would be much to high.  But, to share such a venue with others spreads the cost and therefore makes it more viable and within the pocket of the students we want to attract.  Everyone agreed that that the idea was a good one and that I should try and make it happen.

I am pleased to announce that as the result of that coffee meeting and an excellent Open studio Event, I have teamed up with Alison Peters, Award Winning  Machine Embroiderer and Box of Frogs collective, Elizabeth Christian and Barbara Gamble to teach alongside me on the weekend of 12th and 13th September 2015.  We will be offering 2 full days teaching in the following subjects:

  • Free Machine Embroidery – Alison
  • Introduction to Hand Embroidery – Myself
  • Junk Journal Construction – Barbara and Elizabeth

As part of the build up to the event, I will be featuring each of the tutors as guest bloggers.  My first guest will be Tracy O’Brien of Yarnsmith Studio and Taj Crafts.  Tracy has kindly agreed to coordinate this event for me and will be teaching at those run in the future.  She is a wonderfully creative and giving person who does magic things with a ball of yarn, crochet hook or knitting needles.  Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for her guest post that will go live on Wednesday 19th August.

For details on each of the courses and booking details pleas go over to my workshop and event page here where you will find all of the information you will need.  This event promises to be a lot of fun and we are all looking forward to it with great excitement.
